A sign in the window next door to Maccabee’s Deli at 1150 Polk Blvd. in Des Moines indicates a restaurant and catering service are coming soon. Rabbi Yossi Jacobson, director of the Judaic Resource Center that owns Maccabee’s, said the restaurant should be ready for business in about four to six months. The restaurant and catering will offer kosher, traditional Jewish foods. Those who prefer non-dairy and vegetarian foods will find many menu items amenable to their diets.
Maccabee’s Deli is a kosher deli near the corner of University Avenue. It has been in operation almost 17 years and is open for lunch Sundays and Tuesdays through Fridays. The addition of the restaurant means hours will be expanded, as the restaurant will serve a full dinner and Sunday morning breakfast which will include lox and bagels, among other options. Free Internet service will be available, plus the selection of foods and wines in the grocery section will be expanded.
