Changes in St. Louis

The relatively small universe of kosher establishments in St. Louis has undergone significant changes over the past few months. First came the closing of Pratzel's the 98 year old mainstay followed by the news that a local Breadsmith's would turn kosher to fill the void. Then came the news that VegaDeli would be giving up it's kosher certification. That loss was countered by the news that the Delmar Blvd. location of Gokul, the popular Indian Vegetarian restaurant would be acquiring the certification of the Vaad Ho'ir. Finally comes the news that tomorrow will mark the last day of business for Diamant's Kosher Meat Market which was a source of prepared and packaged foods in University City. The closure leaves Kohn's in Creve Coeur as the only meat establishment in St. Louis. Last year, the cafe at the JCC reopened as Herky's J Cafe in the new Staenberg Family Complex.
